Iain and I went out for a sail. Very pleasant. A
light 10kt southerly, that switched (like a lightbulb) at about 3:30pm to an
easterly that quickly built to 15kts.
Great day out, until the retrieve went horribly wrong - I couldn't seem to get
Iain to tell me if the boat was straight as he winched it onto the trailer.
After two unsucessful attempts, I had a go on the trailer and put Iain on the
boat (my mistake). I dropped the boat back off the trailer and Iain
promptly managed to get it round the corner and blown onto the rocks. When
we finally got it off, and underway, he came screaming around the corner
(ignoring my advice to go "at least a hundred meters out" and get it nice n'
straight on the way in), and lunched it onto the trailer. I discovered the
next day when inspecting the damage at home that the trailer had actually put a
wee hole in the boat! Nothing that a bit of Flowcoat can't fix though - a
small, but very deep hole. And a learning lesson for me!
Still...very nice sailing conditions out there. I was too lazy to put the
spinnaker up, it was that nice out there. We thrashed every other boat out
there... some keelers, the MacGregor (an early Mac 26? - by the looks of the
pics), and one or two others. Very few boats out there - probably because
many were away down south at Lake Aviemore where the Nolex (and Farr 6?) champs
were being raced.
